Roe’s End captures the fear, anger, and determination of women facing the loss of reproductive rights, reflecting on a grim past and a fight for future freedom
By Ronne Denbo
Verdict read out loud
Majority opinion
Abortion denied
Government in women’s body
Knife like, precision cut
Frightened and scared in my reproductive years
Would I see daylight
After the sleep
In this room with bed and sheets
One question remained
Would I see daylight
Cast back fifty years
Illegal abortion progressed
As ugly men and one traitor woman
Took rights away
Women nothing more than a vessel
Once there was freedom
Now none remained
Equality to determine our bodies
Tears among my sisters’ came
Then anger reigned
Cast back fifty years
One question remained
Would she see daylight
Afterwards in this lost fight
Timeless freedom terrorized
Tried to control my sisters
Behold no apologies making
Men scared a shaking
Truth say one man a hundred babies
Fearing our power
They placed restraints
Fearless, a warrior came
Save our birthright over our body
So when we fight we win
And we are all in
